Years 7–9
Middle School
The years in which students discover algebra, deodorant, and the locker economy.
The Middle School covers Years 7 through 9 — a period of profound personal, intellectual, and olfactory development. Our programme is calibrated to support each student through this transition with care, rigour, and a generous supply of permission slips.
Academic Programme
Students in Years 7–9 undertake the full NSW curriculum across English, Mathematics, Science, HSIE, PDHPE, Languages, the Creative Arts, and TAS. Stage 5 elective lines are introduced in Year 9. Approximately 60% of Year 9 elective preferences are revised within the first three weeks, generally after a student notices what their friends chose.
Devices
All Middle School students participate in the school's BYOD programme. The school recommends a current laptop with sufficient battery life. The school discourages, but cannot prevent, the bringing of an iPad with a cracked screen "that's basically fine".
The Locker Economy
The Middle School locker corridor sustains a small but resilient internal economy, primarily based on Up & Go barter, ribbon swaps, and the occasional speculative trade in trading cards. The school monitors this activity but does not interfere unless a student begins quoting The Wealth of Nations.
Co-curricular
Saturday sport is mandatory, year-round, and weatherproof. Cadets become available in Year 9. Music ensembles meet at hours of the morning that, in any other context, would constitute mistreatment.
Pastoral Care
Year Advisers oversee pastoral care, with support from Heads of House and the school counsellor. Discussions in Year 8 focus on resilience, screen time, and the importance of replying to one's parents' messages within 24 hours.
