Celebration of Learning Concludes At 8:47pm; Several Speeches Reportedly 'Excellent'
Term 4, Week 9 · The Bulletin Desk
The annual Celebration of Learning concluded at 8:47pm on Thursday evening, approximately forty-one minutes after the scheduled finish. Audiences were generally accepting, the school reports, with one notable exception in Row M.
The evening included academic prizes across all year levels, three (3) musical interludes, two (2) addresses from invited guests, one (1) Headmaster's address, and one (1) impromptu address from a Year 12 student which had not been scheduled, was not on the run-sheet, and which the school is not, in this Bulletin, going to discuss.
Reception of the prize-winners' selection was warm. Reception of the timing was mixed. The Headmaster, in his closing remarks, described the evening as "a celebration", "of learning", and, separately, "running a little longer than we had hoped".
Parking exits via the Pacific Highway gate were managed by Year 12 prefects with high-vis vests and what the school describes as "diminishing patience".
The Celebration of Learning replaces the previous "Speech Day" format, the school confirms, in name, in tone, and — as of Thursday — in length.
